FIGHT ON STEAMER
FIREMEN SENT TO GAOL Press Association NAPIER, Tuesday. Two firemen on the steamer Mahana. Phillip Dwyer and William Lambert, were charged before Mr. A. MowLexn, S.M., this morning with assaulting the chief officer on board Uie ship at Wellington on January -9, and -with using obscene language. Dwyer pleaded guilty and Lambert Dot guilty. Richard Edmund Thompson, chief officer, gave evidence that the offences Wer ® committed on deck, when he*as summoned on January 29 to intervene in a fight between the ship’s carpenter and Dwyer and Lambert. Tne last named struck witness and otoke his nose. Dwyer struck him rom behind. Accused were taken to !“ e Police station in Wellington, but er ® allowed to rejoin the ship on ondition that they pleaded guilty or. ?ne ship’s arrival at Napier. Corroborative evidence was heard.
