NEW REGENT
“SO THIS IS COLLEGE” Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer’s “So This Is College,” an all-talking-singing-danc-ing picture now delighting big audiences at the Majestic Theatre, can be marked up as another brilliant screen entertainment. It will be presented for only a few more days. College fun and wit, campus capers, five catchy original songs, a strong touch of drama, and, last but not least, the most exciting game of football ever seen on the screen to draw the picture to a stirring conclusion, are the ingredients of this delightful entertainment. The Regent’s programme also includes a number of entertaining supporting items. There are musical selections by the Regent syncopators orchestra, solos on the Wurlitzer organ by Ewart Lyne, dancing by the girls known as “The Dancing Dolls,” and finally a Pathe sound and colour production. Nancy Carroll has a past, and Hollywood won’t let her live it down. The roguish little Irish girl gave up a stage career for the screen, but the advent of the talking pictures brought back her first love. In “Close Harmony," Paramount took advantage of her musical comedy training and cast her as a singer. Next she was a trouper in “The Dance of Life,” opposite Hal Skelly. “Illusion” is her third dialogue production. She plays the part of a vaudeville star and professional entertainer opposite Charles (Buddy) Rogers. The pictures comes to the Regent Theatre next Friday.
