BEEF MARKET STEADY The auctioneers report on the Frankton stock sale as follow: Farmers Co-operative Auctioneering Co., Ltd. —An average yarding of beef, and a heavy yarding of store sheep. Values for good quality beef and mutton were on a par with late rates, j Store lambs met with keen competition, and were, if anything, a shade firmer. : A line of Gisborne ewes, sold in coni' junction with Dalgety and Co., met with keen competition. All classes of breeding ewes sold at increased prices. A heavy yarding of all classes of pigs, competition being again keen. The whole yarding of 300 head was quitted under the hammer. Baconers averaged 7d to 73d a lb, and porkers 7|d to Sid a lb. Quotations: Fat bullocks, heavy, £l4 6s to £ls Is; medium, £l3 10s to £l4 3s; light. £l2 5s to £l2 15s; fat cows, heavy, £9 ISs to £ll 3s; medium, £S 11s to £ S 15s; light, £6 7s to £8 10s; forward cows j made £5 16s to £6 ss; heifer calves, £3 11s; fat. woolly wethers, 335; fat shorn wethers, 26s 2d; fat ewes, 16s to 16s 9d; store ewes, 13s lid to 14s 3d; M.S. woolly lambs, 13s 6d to 15s 6d; smaller, 11s to 13s; two-tooth wethers, 17s 3d to 245. The following prices were realised for the Gisborne . ewes: 616 four-tooth ewes, 27s 2d to 27s lid; 267 six-tooth ewes, 26s 6d to 27s 9d; 500 four-year ewes, 23s to 245; 1,900 five-year-ewes, 20s to 245; a line of two-tooth ewes from Whakatane, 295. Others: Two-tooth ewes, 245! twotooth to f.f.m. ewes, 235; four and fiveyear ewes, 22s 3d; aged ewes, 14s 3d to 17s 3d. Heavy baconers made £4 8s to £4 14s; medium. £4 to £4 ss; light, £3 10s to £3 18s: heavy porkers. £3 8s to £3 12s; light, £2 15s to £3 3s: good stores, £2 Is to £2 ss; slips, 33s to 375; weaners, ISs to 275.
Dalgety and Co.. Ltd.—An average yarding of beef. Choice light bullocks were a shade higher, and cow and heifer beef sold at late rates. Young cows and heifers sold at up to £lO 6s; ordinary fat cows, £8 12s 6d to £8 17s: light fat cows, £7 10s to £B. There were only a few pens of store cattle. A line of IS-months empty Hereford heifers made £ 6 6s to £ 6 15s; store cows, £4 10s to £5 12s Gd; A moderate entry of fat sheep, which sold at late rates. Extra prime ewes made to 19s; others, 16s 6d. A very large entry of store sheep, including 3,900 ewes from Gisborne, sold in conjunction with the Farmers’ Auctioneering Company. There was a good demand for store lambs and breeding ewes. Small shorn lambs made 9s; woolly lambs, 17s 3d; four and fiveyear ewes, £1 2s lid; 30 cull ewes, 11s Gd; f.m. ewes, 15s; a line of 230 ewes, 18s 9d to 21s; cull ewes, 12s 6d to 13s 6d. The East Coast ewes elicited keen competition, and the whole were sold under the hammer as follows: Fourtooth ewes, 27s 9d; six-tooth ewes, 27s 3d; five-year ewes, 24s to 22s 9d; sixyear ewes, 20s. A large yarding of fat pigs, which met with a keen demand, prices being on a par with last week. Heavy fat baconers made £ 4 7s 6d to £4 13s; medium baconers, £3 18s to £4 ss; best porkers, £3 10s; medium, £3. A medium yarding of store pigs. Best stores made £2 8s to £2 13s; lighter, £2 2s to £2 7s; slips, 28s; weaners, 21s.
