MOTOR RACING IN 1930
INTERNATIONAL CONTROL A land vehicle propelled by rockets or an air screw is not, in the true sense of the word, an automobile and cannot compete for world automobile records, the Interna-tionl Sporting Commission has ruled. No vehicle of this type has yet attained speeds that approach those of real automobiles, but there is a chance that one will some day. The commission adopted the present ruling to prevent future disputes. Rocket cars and wind-wagons will have to statin their own classes. The commission has also reached several decisions relative to international racing in 1930. Regulations for the world’s championship will be unchanged. It is now legal to change drivers at the last moment. International records for 30,000 miles will not be recognised and endurance records about 24 hours will be accepted only in jumps of 24 hours. The following dates for international race meetings during 1930 have been approved: Indianapolis, May 30. French Grand Prix, June S or September 21. Belgian Grand Prix, July 5 and 6. German Grand Prix, July 13. European Grand Prix (in Belgium), July 20. Spanish Grand Prix, July 27. English Grand Prix, August 23. Italian Grand Prix, September 7. Captain E. V. Rickenbacker, vicepresident, of Fokker Aircraft Corporation, will continue as Chairman of the Contest Board of the American? Automobile Association. Captain Rickenbacker is a noted war ace and racing authority.
