MAJESTIC

“WHY LEAVE HOME” Gaiety, music and youth—these are the highlights of “Why Leave Home?” the musical comedy version of “Cradle Snatchers,” which is at the Majestic Theatre. Classed as one of the best comedies yet to reach the speaking screen, this all-talking, singing, dancing Fox Movietone feature speeds from one hilarious situation to another witli never a dull moment. The noted song writing team of Conrad, Mitchell and Gottler, who composed dozens of Broadway hits as well as the snappy tunes and lyrics in the recent “Fox Movietone Follies of 1929,” has turned out several irresistible song hits for “Why Leave Home?” that have already leaped into popularity. “Look What You’ve Done to Me,” “Doing the Boom Boom,” “Old Soldiers Never Die” and “Bonita” are some of the numbers, which are being whistled, sung and hummed wherever the picture has been shown, and they add immensely to the picture’s entertainment values. The spirit of youth, with the accent on its lighter moments, is deftly embodied in this story of masquerades and misunderstandings. The complications begin when three college students, compelled to break off a “date” with as many chorus girls for lack of funds, learn of three women who are willing to pay well for their services as escorts. With two of the boys bolstering up the fainting courage of the third, they arrive at the apartment of one of the women, narrowly escaping detection by the three husbands involved. The women have learned that their husbands are pretending to go on a hunting trip, but are really taking out the th.ree chorus girls. Determined to teach the men a lesson, they decide to do a little “stepping out” themselves, and have been in search of youthful instructors. The Majestic’s bright programme includes a Fox Movietone News; jazz selections and dancing by Friedland’s Ritz Revue, from New York; an alltalking comedy, “The Medicine Men.” by Clark and McCullough; and, finally, music from the Majestic Stage Band. ! j !
