A MYSTERY

WEIGHED OUT TWICE SHORT THE SECOND TIME Sensational developments are expected from an inquiry by the stewards at Richmond, and referred to the A.R.C. (Sydney), when it comes before the authorities at headquarters for decision. Richmond stewards declined to discuss the case, beyond issuing the following statement: —’Before the horses went to the post for the 14.2 Handicap, the stewards found that Visper (F. Guy) was 2Mb short weight, although the rider had weighed out correctly. The stewards opened an inquiry, and, after taking certain evidence, referred the matter to the A.R.C.” ‘Visper is owned by Messrs. A. Mclntosh and J. Flynn, and is trained by S. Gore. Only recently he made his first appearance in Sydney for some months, being heavily supported for the first division of the 14.2 Handicap at Victoria Park. At Richmond Visper was top weight with 9.3 for the 14.2 Handicap, Fielders made him early favourite at six to four, but he rapidly blew, and at one stage as much as five to one was on offer. F. Guy, rider of Visper, weighed out apparently correctly, but before he had taken the gelding to the post he was ordered to dismount and return to the weighing room. No Other Rider The stewards made an effort to appoint a competent rider as substitute, but as none was available, Guy’s weight was made up to the correct poundage, and he remounted. This surprise move caused a rush among punters for Visper, and he firmed to short odds, but before the race started he had drifted again, his final price being still short, however. is per was unequal to the task, and could finish no better than third behind Taloumbi and Bozo.
