NEW PARNELL ROAD
BASE OF ST. STEPHEN’S TRIANGLE DIOCESAN TRUST WORK A road is being constructed for the Church, of Kngland Diocesan Trust Board at the foot of the St. Stephen’s Maori Boys’ College to form a side of a triangular area of land with St. Stephen’s Avenue and Gladstone Road as the other sides. When tho new road is built, from 20 to 25 building sections overlooking the Waitemata Harbour will be available. Pipe lines are at present being put down and the direction of the road is becoming apparent. It will join St. Stephen’s Avenue near the entrance to Awatea Road and will reach Gladstone Road near Stratford Street. The long traffic route round the tapering area of land occupied by the Maori Boys’ College will be eliminated when the road is constructed within three or four months.
When St. Stephen’s College is moved in about a year’s time to Bombay, where it will be carried on as an agricultural college, the site will be used by the Education Department for the construction of a new Parnell public school. From four to five acres of land will be available for this plan, which has been held in view by the Education Board for some years, and the school itself will probably be situated near the corner of St. Stephen’s Avenue and Gladstone Road. The new road will be about 10 chains long. Its construction will mean the opening of an extensive area of land for residential sites.
