It crossed the river and destroyed stocks of railway sleepers and a cutter's plant, and also , large area of grass. Serious bush fires threaten the grass in the Mount Wellington district. A farmer named Hayward went out to fight the bush blaze m the Black Ranges, near Stawell. and when he returned be found his six-roomed house burned. The Are is believed to be due to beeswax left melting on the stove boiling over.
