THIEF GIVEN A CHANCE From Our Oven Correspondent. WHANG ARE I. Today. Tn the Whangarei Magistrate's Court before Mr. G. N. Morris, S.M.. Walter Smith was charged with the theft of carpenter’s tools, the property of Roy Smith and R. Leckie. who were building an airplane In a shed in Vinery Lane. The police said that all the tools were recovered except a plane and saw. Accused had a record, having been previously sentenced to 18 months’ reformative detention in 1921. and admitted to five years’ probation in 1922. Accused said he stole to buy food as he was out of work and his wife was in a bad state of health. The magistrate said that for the sake of accused's wife he would adjourn the case for six months and order restitution of 37s 6d to be made within that time.
