ONEHUNGA PIGEON FLYING

The Oneliunga Club opened the 1930 season on Saturday’ with a young bird race. Sixty’ youngsters. all hatched since August 1 last. were given their maiden flutter from Te Awamutu to Oneliunga. an airline distance of 82 miles. Eight lofts competed, the winner covering the distance against a head wind in 2 hours 26 minutes. and just beating the runner-up by 2sec. Results: Mr. J. Wallace’s Bonny Spec. 912.9 yds a minute. 1; Mr. D. B. Smith’s First Flight, 912.Svds a minute, 2: Mr. T. Collins’s All Logan. 909yds a minute. 3: Mr. W. Sargent’s Zulu Queen. S74yds a minute. 4. Also flew: Messrs. Langton Bros.’ bird. 864yds.: Mr. W. Had win’s bird. 787yds: Mr. X. Paddy’s bird. 777yds; Mr. F. K. Glass's bird, 773yds.
