STRUCK A BRIDGE

INTOXICATED DRIVER FINED From Our Own Correspondent OTAHUHU, Today. The sequel to a collision on the Tamaki Bridg-e, Otahuhu, last evening-, when a car crashed through the parapet of the bridge, was heard in the Otahuhu Police Court this morning. when Horace Augustus Yockney, married, aged 25, architect, Auckland, was fined £o and costs by Mr. W. H. Woodward, S.M., for being intoxicated while in charge of a car. Traffic-Inspector Fletcher said defendant was driving his car toward Otahuhu, and when approaching Tamaki Bridge he had a slight collision with another car. He swerved and then struck the parapet of the bridge. In answer to the magistrate the inspector said defendant was not in a fit condition to drive a car. In pleading guilty for Yockney, Mr. Allan Moody said his client admitted having two or three drinks during the day. He was only 25 years of age and was recently married. It was unfortunate that he had a few drinks, but counsel claimed that shock had intensified defendant’s condition. He had never been in trouble before and held responsible position. Mr. Fletcher told the magistrate that defendant had not produced his driver’s licence. Inquiries had been made in Auckland, but no trace of the licenc# could be found. Mr. Moody asked for the suppression of defendant's name, but the application was refused.
