LIGHT WEATHER SAILING
TAMAKI REGATTA SMALL CRAFT AND OUTBOARDS Very light airs characterised the ramaki Yacht Club’s annual regatta at Koliimarama on Saturday. A good number of small yachts and a few mullet boats competed in the sailing events. Large fields of outboards provided diversion for the crowds on the wharf. The schooner-yacht Valkyrie was used its flagship, through the courtesy of Captain E. Gilling, who entertained members of the club and visitors. DETAILS OF RACING Star Class.—Three “star” boats got away with June leading Maid Marion by SSSMtaaft* lensth ' Moa was several 3 Result:—Maid Marion, 1; June, 2; Moa, Z Class.—A field of six Takapuna boats lined up arid started in the following order: Delphme, Tio, Arihana. Kitty, Tievic,, and Me Too. Finishing times wge: 4 Tl °, 0.H.15; Kitty-, 5.14.45; Me Too, Result:—Tio, 1; Kitty. 2; Me Too, 3. T and Y Class.—Ten fourteen-footers got away in a great start. Cupid led the way over, followed closely by Shalimar. ? e , a Dawn, Opah, Lois, Ramona, Muratai, Valencia, Tui and Rita. Finishing times were: Lois, 5.3.33* 5.3.55; Shalimar, 5.11.45; Cupid! 5.27.35; Ramona, 5.38.20; Tui, 6.10.50. c,ass: Shalimar, 1; Ramona, «; Tui, 3 Y class: Lois, 1; Opah, 2; Cupid, 3. Lois also won the Neville Newcomb Cup. V and S Class.—Five starters went over the line in close formation. Mann was first, with Ranui handy. Waipai last next ’ Scud fourth, and Bungaree Finishing times were:—Naniu, 524 25* Scud, 5.40.40. Result:—S class: Narau, l! V class: Ranui, 1; Scud, 2. H, L and N Classes.—The only entries were Ngawa, Celox and Why Not. The last-named started more than a minute late. Finishing times were:—Celox, 5.45.10; Ngawa, 6.10.20. Result: Celox, 1; Cruising Race.—After completing their race eleven boats of the V, S, T and Y r classes were sent away at 6 p.in. to Maraetai, where a dance was held in the evening. Entries and handicaps were:— Desdemona, scr; Ranui, 4m: Namu sm* Waitai, 7m: Opah, 10m; Rahiri IT., Mm; Resolute, 14m; Muritaf, 14 m; Bungaree, 20m; Valencia, 26m: Maureen, 31m. The boats finished late, as the wind was still very light. The times were:— Ranui, 8.36.20: Opah, 8.35.10; Namu, 8.39.50; Desdemona. 8.55.53; Waitea, 9.9.55; Bungaree, 9.10; Muritai, 9.26.30; Maureen, 9.56; Valencia, 9.57. Result: Opah. J; Ranui, 2; Namu, 3.
Rowing Event (for Nixon Cup).—A four-oar rowing event for the Nixon Cup was held from St. Heliers Wharf to Kohl Wharf. There were seven starters. The race resulted: Shore No. 2,1; Shore No. 1, 3: St. George’s, 3; Auckland, 4. Won by r a length. Crews were:—North Shore No. 1: A. Cotes, S. Gardiner, D. Walsh, C. Oliver; North Shore No. 2: W. Dean, F. Eaton, P. Norris, C. Carlyle. St. George’s No. 1: W. Bright, F. Solomon. V. Hargreaves, J. Duncan. St. George’s No. 2: C. Kelleway, .T. Coote, J. R. Biss, H. Biss. Auckland No. 1: J. Bygate, A. Ross, E. Thorburn, A. Andrews. Auckland No. 2: R’ Stacey, R. Martin. IT. Duck, .T. McComish. Auckland No. 3: R. Albrecht. W. Bridgart, H. Rose, R. Porter. The North Shore crews soon took the lead and the No. 2 four won by a good length from The No. 1 crew, with St. George’s No. 1 third. The win makes North Shore’s first success in this interclub competition and its fourth successive victory this season in such races. Outboards.—General Handicap: There were eight competitors with practically an even start. At the end of the first round Kypra Kid led the field, with Lady Gay, Redskin, Pastime, Miss Tamaki and the rest strung out. The finishing times were: Kypra Kid (50sec), 4.18.40; Lady Gay (scr), 4.18.50; Pastime (2im). 4.19.10; Redskin (scr), 4.19.14; Miss Tnmaki (2m 3 0s), 4.19.33; Chancit (2m 10s), 4.20.18: Pip Pits (2m 30s). 4.20.32; The Chief (30s), 4.20.34. Results:— Pastime, 1; Miss Tamaki, 2; Kypra Kid, Second General Handicap.—Another good field started. The order was Lady Gay, Redskin, Pip Pip, Chancit, Pastime Chief, Kypra Kid and Miss Tamaki. Lady Gay was first back, with Redskin near by; Chief was third round, Pastime fourth and Miss Tamaki fifth. Chancit was next, with Pip Pip last. Kypra Kid had a breakdown and pulled out. Finishing times were: Lady Gay, scr. 4.58.35; Redskin. scr, 4.58.50: Chief. 30s, 4.58.54; Miss Tamaki, lm 20s, 4.59.0; Chancit, lm 20s, 5.0.6: Pip Pip, 2m Is, 5.0.27; Pastime, lm 20s, 5.0.49. Result: Miss Tamaki, 1; Pip Pip. 2; Chief. 3. Outboards.—Third race: Kypra Kid, 1; The Chief, 2; Pastime, 3. The club held a picnic to 71101111111 yesterdav. the ferry steamer Pupuke being well filled with members and friends. During the afternoon the launches Ruamano arid Adelaide called at Motuihi with the Southern crews competing in the Sanders Cup contest.
