APPLE EXPORT
SEASON AT HAND QUALITY MAINTAINED The season for the export of apples begins shortly. Auckland exporters are railing about 3.400 cases of Gravensteins to Wellington within a few days, for shipment to England by the Tainui. On February 23, the Karamea takes the first direct shipment from Auckland. Last season, about 80,000 cases of apples were available for export from Auckland, but the quantity for this season is expected to be larger. Crops have been larger than anticipated in many cases, and there are more Gravensteins available for export because of disappointments in the prices secured locally. The quality of the produce is expected to be maintained, but wet weather will possibly have the effect of lessening colour to an extent. Black spot has affected Lougherty, Brighton and Yates varieties. Delicious apples are expected to provide most of the exports from Auckland; Sturmers, Winesaps, Ballarats } Grannie Smiths, Dunns and Willie Sharps will oe exported in large quantities, too. Wellington loadings arranged, subject to amendment, are:—Tainui, loading February 10, 9,000 cases, for London; Rangitane, February 26. 2 3,000 cases, due Southampton April 3: Karamea (after calling at Auckland). February 28, 15,000 cases, due London April 8, also discharging at West of England ports: Tamaroa, March 7, 31,500 cases, due London April 14: Cumberland, March 3, 23,500 cases, due London April 19; Port Brisbane, March 22, 17,500 cases, for London or Southampton.
