LOAN OF CROWN JEWELS

FOR CHICAGO WORLD FAIR GANGSTERS LIKE IDEA In Chicago, city of thugdom, murder, and every other conceivable crime, has originated the brilliant idea that the Crown Jewels of England should be entrusted into it during the 1933 World Fair, says an exchange. And of all times, the suggestion saw rrint when the Press, in glaring headlines, blazoned forth the news of increased outbreaks of burglaries, holdlips and killings, owing to the dismissal of scores of police whom the City Government could not pay. Despite all this, however, Chicago wants the Crown Jewels. Credit for the idea belongs to a member of the World Fair Architectural Commission. It "occurred” to him :hat a replica of the Tower of London would be extremely interesting. Then it occurred to him that it would he even more interesting because the Crown Jewels were in the original Tower. And, finally, it occurred to him that it would be wonderful if England were asked to exhibit the jewels in Chicago just as they are displayed in the real Tower. Kings of Gangland think the idea is mikhty fine. They haven’t yet had an opportunity in Republican America to lay hands on a real crown, orb or sceptre, with which to enhance their regal state. .
