Back to Coats and Umbrellas

In spite of the inclement weather, conditions prevailing for the second day of the Takapuna Jockey Club’s spring meeting, racegoers were in no way daunted, a large crowd attending the course. A return to coats was imperative, and umbrellas—which of late have become an almost daily necessity in Auckland—were to be seen everywhere, but were not nearly so depressing in the new bright colours to match the smart raincoats. These, in the pretty reds and greens, were quite a challenge to the dull skies. Among those present were: Airs. Ernest Alison, navy frock, oyster coloured tweed coat, navy felt hat. The Hon. Mrs. Blyth, grey tweed suit, fawn mackintosh, black and white scarf and a black hat. Airs. Roy Wilson, navy cloth coat and black cire straw laat, with a touch of cerise. Airs. Rex Hoyes, black satin frock, squirrel coat and a close-fitting black felt hat. Airs. Stephen Hunter, beech brown tweed suit and brown felt hat to tone. Airs. Alacklow, navy and gold flecked tailored suit and a navy felt hat. Aliss Biddy Philcox, red jumper suit, grey squirrel coat and red felt hat. Aliss Atolly Alitchelson, navy suit, navy and white spotted crepe de chine scarf, and a small navy felt hat. Aliss Wilson, beige and brown flecked tweed coat and navy felt hat. Ali*s. Mervyn Reed, green rubber coat and black wool beret. Airs. W. Taylor, brown flecked tweed coat and a hat to tone. Airs. Tattley, brown chenille embossed ensemble, furs and a brown felt hat. Aliss Cicely Tattely, plantation brown fur-trimmed cloth coat and brown hat. Airs. Noel Airey, two-toned brown checked tweed coat and a small brow r n felt hat. Aliss Culling, beech-brown tw r eed tailored coat and velour hat to tone. Aliss Rathbone, grey tweed suit and green felt hat. Aliss Partridge, tweed tailored suit, fawn mackintosh, and a brown hat. Aliss Ryan, light-weight tweed suit, brown leather coat and beige beret. Aliss P. Keys, black figured crepe de chine frock, fawn silkinac and small green felt hat.
