YOUNG BEAUTY’S SUICIDE
FAILS TO WIN MISS POLAND CONTEST ANGUISH AMONG ASPIRANTS United P. A. — By Telegraph—Copyright Reed. 9.5 a.m. WARSAW, Friday. A 22-year-old Polish beauty, Irene Wierzbicka, shot herself when she failed to be elected to be Miss Poland to represent her country at the world contest at Rio De Janeiro. The incident has caused a storm of Indignation throughout Poland, where the contest was organised with tremendous publicity. The candidates paraded for hours before a vast audience before the decision was given. When the jury announced the winner, an actress, Sophia Batraka emitted a cry of anguish through the crowded hall. Irene Wierzbicka dashed out weeping, and was later found shot dead in her dressing room.
