In the Market Place
FRUIT PLENTIFUL EASY PRICES RULING Seasonal fruits are plentiful in the City Markets, and easy prices are ruling for most lines. Plums, tomatoes, peaches and apples are heavily supplied, and there are increasing quantities of nectarines and pears. Californian oranges are dear. Bananas a.re selling at fairly high rates. New potatoes, cabbages and lettuces are well supplied in the vegetable auctions, and there are ample stocks of beans and inferior peas. The general demand is fair. Declines, owing to heavy supplies, have taken place for poultry. Cockerels, however, are holding their prices exceptionally well, but hens, heavy and light, are cheaper. Good quality pullets are returning good prices, but there is no change in an ordinary inquiry for ducks and drakes. Quotations: FRUIT Peaches.—Medium and small sizes, 3s to 4s; choice, 4s to 6s.
