CHAIR OF OBSTETRICS
ESTABLISHMENT IN SOUTH CAMPAIGN TO RAISE FUNDS "Every woman should help research into the cause, of matei-nal mortality and its prevention,” said Mrs. T. SI. Lowry, of Hawke’s Bay, at a meeting held in Wellington in. support of the effort to raise a sum of £25,000 to endow a chair of obstetrics at Otago University. Mrs. Lowry explained her plan by which every woman should have an opportunity of contributing in some measure to the cause of preventing the high death rate of the past. Coupons are to be issued in cards of 20. each ! coupon being worth a shilling. The ' design would incorporate a "mother’s chair,” symbolic of the chair to be j established, at the University. The speaker promised to provide the die and the 7,500 cards of coupons that would be necessary for the Wellington and Hawke’s Bay districts. Officials for the division in this effort were elected as follow:—President, Mrs. T. H. Lowry: vice-presi-dent, Lady Buekleton; honorary secre- j tary, Dr. Sylvia Chapman; assistant- ! secretary, Mrs. M. Cable; honorary treasurer, Mrs. Gaby (Hataitai). Mrs. i T. B. Lewis, Market Street, Hastings, was elected Hawke’s Bay secretary.
