GREAT PARKS WORKER

CITY’S TRIBUTE TO LATE SUPERINTENDENT MEMORIAL SUGGESTED The City Council’s sympathy is to be conveyed to the widow' of Mr. Thomas ( Edward Pearson, who died suddenly j on duty on January 17 in his capacity ] of superintendent of parks. Tributes to the work of Mr. Pearson, who entered the council’s service in 190 S. and was appointed superintendent 1 in 1917, were made at the council's meeting last evening. The Mayor, Mr. G. Baildon, said the Town Clerk would convey the council’s .regret, and the councillors stood in silence. "Mr. Pearson’s work for the city was outstanding,” the Mayor said. Cr. J. Patterson, chairman of the Parks Committee, offered the suggestion that the council would perform a fitting act in erecting a memorial to Mr. Pearson in the future. Mr. Pearson was* perhaps pre-eminent in knowledge among New Zealand horticulturists. He had a vision for blending beauty in and around the city, and his work was known throughout the Dominion. His work, indeed, was a fine monument. Integrity had marked Mr. Pearson’s service, and he was respected by the city and his staff. On the motion of the Mayor, the question of appointing a new superintendent was referred to the Parks Committee.
