ST. JAMES

“GOLD DIGGERS OF BROADWAY” A new conception of the wonderful possibilities opened by the introduction of natural colour in motion pictures is afforded by “Gold Diggers of Broadway,” the spectacular Warner Brothers and Vitaphon© all-talking production still continuing its exceptionally popular season at St. James’ Theatre, The picture has been photographed by the technicolour process, and is a great improvement on anything of this nature hitherto attempted, th© many gorgeously-tinted scenes which follow on© another in quick succession forming a briliant setting for the story. Tho reproduction of the sound and dialogue is no less effective, the clarity being a notable feature, Winnie Lightner, in a vivacious part, heads a strong cast, other players in prominent roles being Conway Tearle, Helen Foster and Nick Lucas, “the crooning troubadour.” A long list of talking supports is also being presented. LYRIC, SYMONDS STREET “The Wheel of Chance,” the dramatic picture which will head tho new programme at the Lyric Theatre today, stars the famous actor Richard Barthelmess in a dual role. The story concerns twin boys who are separated in early life. One grows up to be a barrister and the other a criminal, and the climax comes when the lawyer defends his twin brother from a charge of murder, without knowing the relationship. Richard Barthelmess interprets both roles. An unusually interesting picture entitled “Children of Divorce” is the second feature. Clara Bow and Esther Ralston are the stars.
