NEW REGENT

“SO THIS IS COLLEGE” Bright dialogue, tuneful melodies, jazzy dancing and all the thrills of a championship football game botii een rival universities make ‘So This Is College,” which opens today at the New Regent Theatre, one of tlie best produc.tions for good movie entertamU The new Metro -Goldwyn-Mayer collegiate comedy was filmed on the catn- > pus of the University of Southern California, the first college to be used as locale for a moving picture. Hundreds of students worked in tlie picture as extras, giving a genuine atmosphere to the scenes showing tlie football game and the midnight bonfire rally. The photography of the picture is especially beautiful, with views of the tree-shaded campus, tlie walks, fraternity row, and the old college buildings. The plot centres about the bitter rivalry between the University of Southern California and Stanford University. The swiftly moving action reaches a climax at the big game o£ the season at which 100,000 persons cheer the opposing teams. There is a spirit of fun and good humour running all through “So This Is College” that will make the audience sit back in its seat and grin at the amusing antics of the “coeds” and college celebrities. The members of the cast for this collegiate production are not only young, good looking and full of pep, but they seem to catch the spirit of the thing. Playing leads are Elliott Nugent, member of the well-known stage family, who is making his film debut in the picture; Sally Starr, another new-cower to the screen and known as “Wood’s new’ find”; Robert Montgomery, Broadway juvenile of “Possession,” “Garden of Eden” and other plays, and Phyllis Crane, who appeared in “Coquette” with Mary Pickford. Cliff Edwards, known to phonograph fans as “Ukulele Ike”; Max Bavidson, Hal Roach comedian, and others make up a capable supporting cast. Exceptionally fine supporting items are to be presented on the same programme.
