DEFAULTING RATEPAYERS

POSITION AT TAKAPUNA Reporting to the Takapuna Borough Council last evening, the Town Clerk, Mr. H. L. Bowden, said arrears of rates to the extent of £798 had been received since the last meeting in December. Prior to the imposition of the statutory 10 per cent, penalty on January 16, the current year’s rates that had. been received was represented by the satisfactory figure of 78.25 per cent. However, there was nearly £20,000 of rates still outstanding. Final notices prior to prosecution of defaulters will be issued immediately. In commenting on the return, the Mayor, Mr. J. W. "Williamson, said the indications were that the borough accounts would balance provided members gave the closest scrutiny to all expenditure prior to March 31.
