GOOD RIFLE SHOOTING

AUCKLAND CHAMPIONSHIP ANNUAL PRIZE MEETING The 1930 champion rifle shot of the Auckland district is Mr. F. C. Hubbard, of Paeroa, who won with an aggregate of 230. Mr. W. Golquhcun, of the Akarana Club, was second with 229, and Mr. J. R. Draffin, also of Akarana, third with 225. 1 r J , fiE championship was decided at I the Penrose range yesterday, when the Auckland Rifle Association's annual prize meeting was held. In the morning the sky was overcast but sighting was good. A moder-*? ate wind blew directly across the range from the right and did not i trouble the marksmen unduly. In the | afternoon, however, the sun came out and the wind, which had steadily increased in velocity, became gusty and tricky. To some extent this affected the marksmen, but by accurately judging the changes in the wind good scores were returned in all matches. The matches were of 10 shots each over 300, 500, 600, 800 and 900 yards ranges, in addition to a service match of 10 rounds rapid in 35 seconds on a 300 .yards range, the championship being counted on the aggregate scores. Entries were quite up to expectations, 4S riflemen from Auckland. Whangarei, Rangitaiki, Whakatane, Pukeliuia and Paeroa competing. Good shooting was seen in the service match, won by H. Judkins, of the City Club, all the competitors returning good cards. In the President's Match of 300 yards, J. Morris, jun., of Whangarei, won with a brilliant 47, a meritorious performance for a schoolboy cadet in competition against ; veteran marksmen. J. R. Draffin was second with another 47, and C. J. M. Clark third with 45. The tyro was won by A. M. Richardson with 44. The Auckland Match of 500 yards was won by W. Colquhoun, of Akarana Club, who returned a fine card of 49. A. T. Patrick was second with 47 and J. >7orris third with another 47. A. Cr. Robertson won the tyro with 46. S. Elliott, of Akarana Club, carried off the Avondale Match at 600 yards with 46, D. Calder and A. C. Watson each with 45 taking second and third places respectively. A. G. Robertson won the tyro with 45. Some very close shooting was seen in this match. The Onehunga Match at 800 yards was won by H. Judkins with 49, F. C. Hubbard being second with 49 and M. J. Verrall third with 48. The tyro was won by H. A. Morrison with ~47. Despite the tricky wind and the long range the first 16 competitors finished within five points. F. C. Hubbard won the Citizens’ Match at 900 yards with 49, H. W. Verrall being second with 48 and W. Colquhoun third with 48. The tyro won by K. Davies with -45. The teams’ match was won by the Paeroa team with a total of 355, Akarana A being second with 355 and City A third with 353. After the matches were over the cups and trophies for the various matches were presented by the president, Mr. A. T. Patrick. The championship cup was won by Mr. Hubbard, who alscf "took the Hallyburton Johnstone Cup and the King's Sweepstakes. The Tyro Sweepstakes was won by Mr. J. Norris, jun.
