Variety Cricket

PARNELL’S GOOD WIN FROM EDEN Matheson’s Heavy-Hit Century PLODDING cricket on damp wickets in the morning, free and prolific batting on the drier afternoon surfaces—variety was given spectators at the A.C.A. games at Eden Park yesterday. Parnell’s brilliant batting, resulting in a win from Eden, drew most interest, but University’s play against Suburbs, when Matheson scored a century, was highly interesting.

Eden could not master the heavywicket on which it had been sent to play in the morning-. Eawrie and O. L. Weir batted stubbornly ami contributed. more than half of the total of 3 32. Parnell had much easier batting conditions and its batsmen set a solid pace. The only restraint on the scoring was the keen fielding of Eden. Parnell ended up with 279 for eight wickets, Whitelaw having scored 68, Wensley 50 not out. while Duncan and L. Vivian topped 30. Had United Suburbs been abb to produce its full bowling strength. University would not have been able to hit up a big score of 255 for five wickets, mainly through Matheson and -Metge, on a heavy wicket. Suburbs strove valiantly for a draw but the the team was all out a few minutes from time. Ponsonby's low score on No. 3 was just passed by Grafton, which had a three-point win on the first innings. Ponsonby played out the afternoon u good score in the second innings.
