PAEROA NOTES
The Mayor of Paeroa, Mr. W. Marshall. during a A'isit to Auckland interviewed the railway authorities on the question of the running of special excursion trains to Paeroa on February 20 on the occasion of the unveiling of the local war memorial and the trooping of the colours of the First Battalion of the Hauraki Regiment. The department has agreed to comply with, the request and to run the special train as desired. Arrangements in connection with the big camp of the First Battalion of the Hauraki Regiment, which is to be held on the Paeroa racecourse in February, are nearly complete. The advance party will go into camp on Saturday, February 8, and on the following Wednesday 200 officers, N.C.O.’s and men will follow. On the Saturday following 200 men from the regular training centres will go under canvas. The whole camp will be comrjianded by Lieutenant-Colonel Prideaux. \ The presentation and consecration of the new colours will take place on Thursday, February 20. Mr. K. M. Graham, Commissioner of Crown Lands. Mr. N. Woodward, Te Awamutu, and Mr. H. Poland, Paeroa, members of the Auckland District Lands Advisory Board, are at present inspecting the Kaueranga block Avith a view to having it opened for closer settlement. After the inspection the board will meet and draw up its report, which will be forwarded to the Minister of Lands, and the new Land Development Board in Wellington. On its recommendations will largely depend the future' plans of dealing with the block.
