question of women riders T think that the rule which does not permit women to ride in steeplechases will be altered soon,” says Miss Jean Sanday, commenting on the National Hunt Club’s decision that The Breezer, the horse which she mounted and rode to the finish of the White Lodge Steeplechase last month, after the jockey had been thrown, was not entitled to second place, presumably because the race was completed by a woman. “It is a pity that women are not allowed to compete with men, not so much on racecourses as in hunt or point-to-pcint races,” she said. “I do not suppose I am equal to men riders, but I would like to ' compete with them, because it is very exciting.” Miss Sanda:/ regularly rides her father’s horses, training them for gallops and schooling them over hurdles.
