The bathrooms and lavatories have all been tiled in white, with blue borders. Some changes in fhe bathing accommodation have been made and slipper baths as well as showers will now be provided for the travelling public. ROOF GLASSED IN The roof of the concourse has been glassed in and painters are now at work putting the final touches to ?h» steel frames. A start lias been made to finish the terrazzo floor of the main lobby and the roar of electric polishers nontakes the place of the rattle clatter of hammers and saws. Upstairs the offices have been almost completed, even to the plastering. Plasterers will soon be ready to finish the public rooms on the ground floor. Workmen are busily spreading spoil over the huge forecourt of the station Special lines have been laid and the spoil is. brought in on trucks and scat tered to the required level Inside the low brick walls which divide the forecourt from the carriageways running in off Beach Road. The main road from the arrival and departure platforms to The Strand has been finished except for the concrete surface and the rapiPs running from the level of the entrance to the station down on to Beach Road will soon be ready for their final surface. A large quantity- of glass and terracotta has still to arrive from overseas. but apart front that all the ma terial required is on the spot. By the end of February a start will probably he made in clearing up some of the debris. Yesterday the station was visited by the Minister of Railways, the Hon. W. B. Taverner, who expressed satis faction with the progress which was being made. He also confessed that the Auckland building would take pride of place in the Dominion. Mr. Taverner was accompanied by Mr. IT. H. Sterling, general manager of railways; Mr. F. C. Widdop, chief engineer; Mr. E. Casey, divisional superintendent: Mr. J. Dow, engineer new works; Messrs. W. IT. Gammer and C. R. Ford, architects; and Mr. A. Good, representing the contractors, J. T. Julian and Sons, Limited.
