“WEET-BIX” PICNIC
SUCCESSFUL OUTING AT FERNDALE The annual picnic provided by the Weet-Bix Company was held at Fern-’ dale yesterday. A general invitation was given to employees to bring their friends, and a large crowd of wellwishers attended. No trouble was spared by those in charge, and the proceedings ran as near to schedule as can be expected of so large a company, it is safe to say that not one person went home disappointed, though the majority went home with muscles that will tell the tale for a few days to come. Among the many events of the day was the men’s 100yds free to allcomers. This was won by Mr. A. Harvey in 10 4-ssec. This carries with it the “Empire” cup, donated by the Empire Box Company and engraved ,in suitable fashion. The “Goldfinch” cup, donated by the Goldfinch Advertising Agency, was awarded to the speediest lady, Mrs. George Denning, of Onehunga. The “Weet-Bix” cup was won by Master Ron Brown and the Ferguson cup for young ladies by Miss Carter. Mr. P. J| Goldfinch acted as starter, and Mr. D. Gilmore as official timekeeper. The lorry-drivers’ race, the tug-o-war, the egg and spoon race, the ladies’ nail-driving and the lunch interval were all well appreciated. A game of rounders opened the day, and a hearty hand-clap for the committee was the final item. It is estimated that some 200 people were there. Next year’s picnic is to be held at Motuihi Island.
