EMMY DESTINN DEAD
FAMOUS OPTRA SINGER Reed. 1 p.m. LONDON, Wednesday. The death lias occurred of Emrnv Destinn, famous opera singer. Emmy Destinn, or Emmy Kittel, to give her real name, was born in Prague on February 20. 1873. Sii*? studied singing under Madame Locw<-» Destinn. whose name she took- Bhe was first engaged to ipp«:ai at the Royal Opera Boils •, Berlin, in 1893. She took up the violin a.f her first study, but m 3 892 decided to adopt singing as h€*r profession. She has spent most of her time at tho Royal Op ra House, Covent Garden, and at the Metropolitan Opera House, New York. She is famous for her appearances in “Aida,” “Madame Butterfly.” "The Girl of the Gold* n West/* “Tosca" anti “Un Itallo in Maschora”
