FALSE ALARMS

REWARDS TO BE SHOWN ON SCREEN MT. EDEN COUNCIL’S ACTION That the screens in picture theatres in the Mount Eden Borough be utilised for the purpose of checking the prevalence of false fire alarms, was the proposal adopted at a meeting of the Borough Council held on Monday. Station-Officer J. M. Maskell recommended in his report to the council that the offer of a reward for any information leading to a conviction should be advertised on a slide p.t the three picture theatres in the borough. According to Mr. I>. Joll, the suggestion was well worth considering as some of the person^who were responsible for the false alarms would at one time or another be present at the theatres and the use of an advertising slide should have a deterrent effect. It was resolved to leave the affairs in the hands of the Town Clerk with power to act.
