HOLIDAY RACING
Takapuna Fixture Opens SURPRISE IN TRIAL STAKES THE Takapuna Jockey Club's summer carnival opened today in line, but overcast weather. There was the usual large holiday attendance, while the course was in perfect condition. Favourites in the Trial Handicap were well routed, good prices being returned by Honiton and Chromadyne, who filled the dividend producing positions. Lumirary, well fancied for the Orewa High-weight, won by a narrow margin from King's Guard, who was unlucky. The winner had to stand the brunt of an inquiry, but the placings were unaltered. Mithra, at a good price, downed a hot fancy in Sir Russell in the Zealandia Handicap.
