BUTCHER’S DEATH

CORONER ON SUICIDES BY GAS-POISONING PUBLISHING DETAILS Suicide by gas-poisoning was the verdict returned by the coroner, Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., yesterday, concerning the death of George Walmsley, a butcher, who was found lying in his gas-filled home at Green Lane on January 21. A neighbour said that on the previous Friday, Walmsley had complained of feeling unwell and said he was going to Opotiki, where his wife was staying. Witness was asked to feed the fowls, and on going to the home on the Monday, noticed a strong smell of gas, and on entering the house found the deceased. The coroner, in a rider to his verdict. said until he could prevent the publication of the evidence in gas suicides, they would continue. He pointed out another case which had occurred subsequently.
