SPRINTERS IN GREAT FORM AT THE DOMAIN SAVIDAN S SOUND EFFORT Running fourth in the mile handicap at last evening’s meeting of the Auckland Amateur Athletic and Cycling at the Domain, J. TV. Sctvidan returned the good time of 4m 30 2-ss. Considering that so little actual competition has taken place this season, the champion’s performance was quite a good one, and by the time the overseas athletes reach New Zealand, Savidan should be at the top of liis form.

The track was fast, and the principal event—the mile handicap—saw three runners return excellent times. C. Scown, who led the field home from an 80yds. handicap, would have covered the full distance in approximately 4m 355, while N. F. Cooper (35yds), failing by a foot to catch Scown, must have at least equalled Savidan’s time. Alf Clark, the veteran, started from a mammoth 260yds handicap, and maintained his lead until the last 40 yards. A. J. Elliott won his heat of the 190 cards in 9 4-ssec. Lie appeared to boat the gun. He was third in the final and failed to got a place in the 220 yards, which was annexed by L. 11. Meredith. The winner showed that, lie is in splendid form, while ElL. H. Meredith liott’s close third in the hundred, which was run in 9 4-ssec, was a brilliant performance. The cycle event went to the limit rider, E. King, who hung to Ins handicap to win well. That good cyclist, M. P. Byrnes, has broken bis arm and was not riding. Results: 100 Yards Handicap.—First heat: R. C. Willey (Byds), 1; N. F. Funnell (6yds), 2; H. L. McCoy (2yds), 3. Time. ’Os.
