ROTORUA FROM LIVERPOOL.— With passengers from Liverpool and cargo from West Coast United Kingdom ports, the New Zealand Shipping Company’s liner Rotorua arrived in port this morning and berthed at Queen’s Wharf. It is hoped to dispatch her on Saturday for Napier to continue di^harging. MONICA REACHES WELLINGTON.— The Pencarrow Shingle Company’s re-cently-purchased twin-screw tug Monica arrived at Wellington on Sunday morning with the lighter Mabelle in tow, from Dargaville, via Auckland, Thames and Napier. The Mabelle is to carry shingle from Pencarrow to Wellington, the Monica to do the towing. The tug is a smart little wooden vessel of 22 tons gross, built at Auckland in -1909 by Mr. Chas. Bailey, jun., and engined by Messrs. Fraser and Co. For several years the Monica traded between Lyttelton and Banks Peninsula. Subsequently she was purchased by the Northern Wairoa Company and was used by that company for six years for the carriage of cream. "When a bridge was built across the river the Monica was laid up, and the cream has since been conveyed by motor-lorries. The Monica left Dargaville on New Year’s Day, and went to Auckland to pick up the Mabelle. The latter is a substantial craft which was used for carrying shingle and metal in Waitemata Harbour. The Monica towed the Mabelle to Thames, where the latter loaded quarry machinery for Wellington. TRANS-PACIFIC CARGO SERVICE.— The Waikawa left Los Angeles on January 9 for Hobart, where she is due on February 8, Beauty Point, Melbourne, Adelaide, and Sydney, and returns to Vancouver direct. The Waitemata left Los Angeles on January 21, and is due at Auckland on February 15, thence to Wellington, Bluff, Melbourne and Sydney, and returns Vancouver via Fiji. The Wairuna was due at Lautoka at noon yesterday, and is expected to leave on January 31 for Vancouver direct. The Waiotapu left Newcastle on January 24 for Vancouver, via Fiji, and is due at -Suva today.' NIAGARA IN PORT. —The Royal Mail liner Niagara arrived from Vancouver, via Honolulu and Suva, yesterday afternoon. She berthed at Prince’s Wharf to land 177 passengers, as well as mail and cargo for New Zealand. During the passage from Vancouver to Honolulu boisterous weather was encountered, and owing to the rough seas at Honolulu the vessel was delayed outside that port for eight hours. She left Honolulu four hours behind the schedule time, but owing to the improved weather conditions afterward she made up the leeway and reached Suva on time. CITY OF WELLINGTON FOR NAPIER. —The New Zealand Shipping Company advises that tire Ellerman and Bucknall steamer City’ of Wellington, now at Queen’s Wharf unloading cargo from New York, is to sail at 5 p.m. this day’ for Napier to continue discharging. KAREPO AT WELLINGTON.—The Union Company’s new cargo steamer Karepo arrived at "Wellington on Sunday morning from Birkenhead and berthed at the Clyde Quay Wharf. The Karepo, which, like her sister-ship, the Kaimiro. was built and engined by Cammell, Laird and Co., Birkenhead, took in a full cargo of Welsh coal at that port, and sailed on December 5 for Wellington. During the first six days of her voyage the ship encountered the westerly and south - westerly gales which caused a number of wrecks and much anxiety for shipping at the time. The Karepo was compelled to heave-to at times, and at the best was able to steam at greatly reduced speed. Heavy seas swept the decks of the vessel, but she came through the ordeal unscathed. Good weather then prevailed to Panama Canal, and thence to Wellington. The ship averaged 10.14 knots from Panama, and the best steaming record for 24 hours was 264 miles. The Karepo is a facsimile of the Kaimiro, and should prove a most useful addition to the “red funner’ fleet. Captain W. Hender, who is master of the Karepo, went Home to bring her out. His officers are;—Chief, Mr. A. C. Croslie; second, Mr. F. "W. Brown; third, Mr. O. A. Meyer; fourth, Mr. W. V. Langdale; chief engineer, Mr. R. S. Dickie; second, Mr. O. Jones; third, Mr. C. C.
