Woman and Children In Burning House

LAST-MINUTE ESCAPE AWAKENED JUST IN TIME Press Association CHRISTCHURCH, Today. A narrow escape from being trapped in a blazing house was the experience of Mrs. H. J. Newton and her two children, when their home at 57 Mary Street, Papanui, caught fire early this morning. Mrs. Newton awoke to find the bedroom full of smoke and darts of flame, and she had just time to bring Mr. Newton from his bedroom in a bach a few yards from the house to rescue the children before the whole house burst into flames. The occupants escaped in their night clothes, and nothing was saved. Mr. Newton had his hair singed in rescuing the children.
