£30,000 FOR DRAINS
ONEHUNGA LETS BIG CONTRACT NEW SWIMMING POOL The Mayor of Onehunga. Mr. K. Morton, at the meeting of the Borough Council last evening, announced the successful flotation of a loan amounting to .£36.400 for drainage and water reticulation in the new area recently taken over from the One Tree hill Road Board, and a further sum of £4.000 for advances to rate payers for drainage connections. Air. Alorton said the money bad been with a sinking fund of £1 As per eent. for a period of 33 years, but the system of repayment of intreest and sinking fund was such that the whole amount would be liquidated in 31J years. When the tenders for the work were opened last evening a further windfall was met with when Messrs. H. Bray and Company’s tender was opened. The estimate for drainage was £24,640. but Bray and Co. tendered at £1.500 less, which the Mayor announced would mean a reduction of about Id in the £ on the rates. The Auckland Harbour Board wrote granting permission to erect bathing sheds and a swimming bath on the foreshore at the foot of Norman's Hill, and the terms of a lease for 14 years at an annual rental of £ 1 were agreed to, ratification to be completed when the proposed loan is carried. Air. W. J. Jordan, M.P.. notified that he had made representations to the Postmaster-General regarding the necessity for a more commodious post office at the Royal Oak and he expected the heads of the department would shortly visit the locality. Mr. Jordan also informed the council that the hours of attendance at the Royal Oak Post Office had been made continuous from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily as requested by the council and the Chamber of Commerce. It was decided to comply with a re-
quest of the Felldingr Borough Council for detailed information on unimproved value rating in relation to th« proposals of the Urban Farm Rating Bill for giving relief to holders of farming land situated in boroughs. Donations were made of £1 Is toward the Auckland Regatta fund and £2 2s to the Alanukau Yacht Club toward the cost of sending a crew to Dunedin to compete in the Cornwell Cup contest. The district fund account is £6.455 in credit. Accounts amounting to 1.3 715 were passed for payment.
