HAS IT ARRIVED AT LAST? EXCURSIONISTS’ DAY OUT Up to Saturday, Auckland was full of morose young men and glowering young women. You saw them slouching along Queen Street, oppressed by horrible distrust. Saturday changed all that. Sunshine produced a benevolence which has been foreign to Auckland since early last year. Auckland folk threw off suspicion and crowded on to trains, ferries, buses, cars, yachts, launches and motorcycles. CROWDED TRAINS They had a splendid time yeeterday. A special excursion train to Hamilton made a record for the trip. Fifteen well-filled carriages left the city and there were more than 750 passengers after Drury was passed. Large crowds came on the inward train from Hamilton. About 450 persons were carried on a train from Glen Afton to Waihi and on to Mount Maunganui. All other transport services carried a vast volume of traffic. The vehicular ferries worked at top pressure to transport cars from the city side to the North Shore. Motuihi, Motutapu, Rangitoto, Waiheke, Kawau and Pine Islands all w ere visited by large crowds. Many motor tourists crossed to the West Coast to Muriwai and Piha. All the bays of the Waitemata and the Manukau were densely crowded, and, on the Shore, Milford, Takapuna, Cheltenham, Narrow Neck, Brown’s, Campbell's and Murray’s Beaches were thronged by bathers in multi-coloured attire. Bathers, boating men, trampers, or just plain excursionists—they were all abroad. _
