MAN KILLED BY CAR

ACCIDENT NEAR WANGANUI DRIVER BADLY HURT Press Association WANGANUI, Friday. A fatal motor accident occurred on the road between Wanganui and Raetihi at three o’clock this afternoon, Mr. William Hawkesby Balam, a horse-driver, being killed when a car. plunged over a bank. A service car was travelling toward Wanganui, driven by Mr. Walter Taylor Goddard, and at the 32-mile peg a bursting tyre sent the vehicle careering down a bank. Mr, Ballam was thrown out, and apparently the car ran over him. He died within a few minutes. Mr, Goddard landed in some toitoi bushes, and was removed to the Wanganui Hospital in a serious condition. Both men are Wanganui residents. Mr. Ballam was a married man, 60 years of age, and Mr. Goddard is single, aged 47. Mr. Goddard was driving the car in. place of the deceased’s son.
