BIG SURF GALA

MILFORD PROGRAMME ATTRACTION NEXT WEEK A surf and beach gala will be conducted at Milford Beach on Anniversary Day, January 29, by the Milford Surf and Life-Saving Club. Besides life-saving competitions and running events, swimming races will be held with the assistance of the North Shore Amateur Swimming Club. The aquatic events are:—4o yards, boys, 9 to 12 years; 75 yards, Milford championship for boys, 12 to 15 years; 40 yards, girls, 9 to 12 years; 75 yards, Milford championship, girls, 12 to 15 years; handicaps for boys and girls, 9 to 12 years and 12 to 15 years over 40 yards and 75 yards respectively; corfu dive; open handicap, 50 yards; women’s open handicap, 50 yards; open breaststroke handicap, 50 yards; challenge relay, 200 yards, for teams of four men; and burlesque demonstration by the Milford Club. The beach programme is: Tug-of-war, men; three-legged race; chariot race; thread-the-needle race; relay race; women’s sprint; treasure hunts and castle building competitions for children. For the Milford championships for boys and girls, four silver cups have been presented from the Herbert Smith trust fund, and the Milford Club, assisted by local businessmen, will award prizes for the other events. These will be presented by Mr. J. W. Williamson, Mayor of Takapuna.
