SOCCER LANDSLIDE IN ENGLISH SCHOOLS
A STATEMENT that Association football has practically lost the public schools and is losing the secondary schools in England —the former correspond to New Zealand's more important secondary schools—may startle Soccer enthusiasts. But it is made by an English weekly paper of high standing in sport—a paper which gives more space to Association football than to any other winter sport. The “Athletic News” says: “The Football Association neglected to tackle the Soccer landslide in the public schools. Now it has spread to the secondary schools to such an extent that in one county, Cheshire, 50 of them have either changed over to Rugby football or are about to do so. . . . Cheshire rightly emphasises the fact that Soccer has practically lost the public schools, of which only two or three adhere to the game.”
