LORRY DRIVER KILLED
CAPSIZE INTO DITCH BOY AND GIRL UNHURT _ Press Association HASTINGS, Thursday. A fatal accident occurred this afternoon, in which a Maori, Toi Pohio, aged 21, single, lost his life. He was driving a motor-lorry along Pakowhai Road, in the direction of Taradale, when it ran into a ditch. Riding on the lorry with the driver were a boy and girl, Harvey Rika and Eva Andrews, each about 17 years old. In passing a car travelling in the same direction, the lorry skidded in some shingle, and half-capsized into a ditch. The boy and girl were thrown clear, and escaped with bruises and shock, but Pohio was evidently struck on the head by the edge of the cab, and was killed almost instantaneously.
