“MANHATTAN COCKTAIL” AT GRAND
Playing in a screen story of the stage is like going home for Nancy Carroll, Lilyan Tashman, Paul Lukas and most of the other screen artists in “Manhattan Cocktail,’’ Paramount’s story of Broadway backstage life, coming to the Gr-and Theatre today. Miss Carroll’s role in “Manhattan Cocktail” is similar to the real life one she played in “The Passing Show of 1923,” before she ever thought of motion pictures. Miss Tashman was in the Ziegfield Follies. Lukas is a noted European stage actor. Danny O’Shea was on the Orpheum until a few years ago with a big dancing act. Even Bert Woodruff, who plays the role of the stage doorman in the film, is a veteran of the footlights. Woodruff was on the stage when kerosene lamp footlights were a novelty. The only principal member of the cast who has not had actual theatrical experience is Richard Arlen, who is co-featured with Miss Carroll.
