“THE MIGHTY ATOM”

AUSTRALIAN BOOSTS NEW ZEALAND ATTRACTING TOURISTS Boosting New Zealand’s magnificent mountain and bush scenery, its waterways, thermal wonders and tourist attractions generally is more than a hobby with Mr. F. E. Tomlinson, of Sydney; it is his mission in life. Holidaying in Auckland, Mr. Tomlinson visited The Sun office yesterday and breezily proclaimed himself to be “The Mighty Atom,” who “takes second place to on one” in enlightening the people of Australia and the United States on the wonders of the Dominion. His business is to attract tourists here and he says his missions, on which he has been accompanied by Mrs. Tomlinson, who assists in the work, have been remarkably successful. Full of quick-fire, eloquent talk of New Zealand’s tourist attractions, this little Australian—lie was Melbourneborn —has seven times travelled through the Commonwealth and once through America, lecturing and exhibiting moving pictures, depicting scenes likely to attract oversea visitors to New Zealand. He is a photographer by occupation, he says, and claims he has acted in this capacity with all the Governors of New Zealand on their tours and that he also accompanied the Parliamentary delegation to Samoa a few years ago. Mr. Tomlinson claims to have undertaken the “boosting New Zealand” mission through California at the instance of the Union Steam Ship Company. He makes it clear he is not a Government servant. On the present trip to the Dominion he is gathering more “dope” about “this great little country” to hand out to prospective American tourists. He says he is shortly issuing a series of lantern slides depicting New Zealand birds in natural colours and has almost finished a film of wild animal life, which he believes is of the type for educational purposes.
