BRAVERY REWARDED

HONOUR FOR CAPTAIN TWENTYMAN RESCUE FROM DROWNING SUVA, January 16. The bravery of Captain E. W. G. Twentyman, harbourmaster at Suva, has been recognised by the King and he has been appointed a member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (M.8.E.). On June 14 last year, a man fell overboard from the Aoraugi, when the vessel was outside the reef at Suva and on her way to Auckland. Captain Twentyman put off with two Fijian boatmen to save the man. He “jumped” the reef in his small craft and eventually rescued the man, who was exhausted. The two Fijians have been granted the civil medal of the Order of the British Empire for their meritorious service.
