BUSH fires have done incalculable damage to crops and farm property in Western Australia, and simultaneously Queensland is suffering torrential rains and cyclones. • The rain is being measured in yards.

It is impossible to estimate the damage, but valuable crops and stocks ot fodder, as well as fences, cattle and buildings, are destroyed. Telephone and telegraph services are dislocated. The fires are now mostly under control. RAIN BY THE YARD Itecd. 11 a.m. BRISBANE, Today. Floods and wasli-aways due to the torrential rains of the past three
weeks mark the start of the North Queensland cyclone season. Since the beginning of the year two cyclones have visited the Northern coast, and rain has played havoc with the railway services. The rainfalls at Tully are now measured by yards. In the last fortnight four yards have been recorded, 12in having been registered for the past 48 hours.
