RANGITIKEI DEFEATED
M.C.C. WINS BY INNINGS TWO DAY MATCH AT MARTON Special to THE SUN MARTON, Wednesday. Rangitikei was defeated by an innings and 216 runs in the match against the M.C.C. team, which was concluded today. The visitors scored 432 for eight wickets and declared. Rangitikei, which had scored 135 runs in the first innings, made only 81 in the second. Dawson (59) and Nichols (71) resumed for the visitors to the bowling of Glennie and Smith. The game had been in progress only a few minutes when Nichols sent a catch to Staples off Glennie. 141—3—73. Worthington was next man in, and at noon the score was 154, with Dawson G 6, and Worthington 4. The last wicket fell with the total at 135. Dawson and Worthington continued to increase the score, but the former, when he had scored 96, was run out as a result of good fielding. The score was then 210 for four wickets. Gilligan followed and the score mounted faster. At the luncheon adjournment the total was 256. Seven minutes after play started again Gilligan sent a sure catch to Cameron. Duleepsinhji followed, and his well-placed shots delighted the onlookers. Worthington was caught by Sladden when he had scored 91. When Woolley joined Duleepsinhji the two batsmen immediately livened up the game. Duleepsinhji appeared to be set for good when he sent the ball into Barton’s hands for 76. His was a brilliant innings and he received loud applause. Rangitikei’s second innings resolved itself into a procession, all going out m 100 minutes for 81. Cameron, 34, was the only man to make a stand, batting brilliantly. Details: RANGITIKEI
