PERSONAL.— Captain G. W. Godfrey has been appointed acting-master of the Kahika. Mr. D. J. Rutter has joined the Tofua as third officer, relieving Mr. J. V. Broadhouse for holidays. Mr. A. T. Adam recently joined the Maheno as chief officer, relieving Mr. C. C. Waters, who is transferring to the Maunganui, relieving Mr. N. J. Siepen for holidays. Mr. D. A. Menlove is rejoining the Makura as third officer at Sydney this week. lONIC ARRIVES HOME. Cabled news has been received by the Shaw, Savill and Albion Company that the liner lonic arrived at Southampton on Sunday evening from Auckland, via Panama Canal. The vessel sailed from Auckland on December 11. NIAGARA RETURNING. —Due at Suva at 6 a.m. tomorrow’ from Vancouver and way ports, the Union Company's R.M.S. Niagara leaves again at noon for Auckland. She is due here next Monday, and is announced to sail from this port again at 5 p.m. on Tuesday for Sydney. SURREY SAILS TOMORROW.— It is hoped to finish loading operations on the Federal steamer Surrey tomorrow afternoon, and she will then leave Auckland for New York, Halifax and London, via Panama. The New Zealand Shipping Company is the local agent. WAITEMATA LEAVES LOS ANGELES.—The Union Company reports that the Waitemata left Los Angeles on Tuesday with Pacific Coast cargo for discharge at Auckland. Wellington. Bluff and Australia. She is due at Auckland on February 15. SYDNEY STEAMERS. —The Ulimaroa leaves Auckland at 11 a.m. tomorrow for Sydney, -and the Maunganui and both clear Sydney tomorrow at 3 p.m. for Auckland and Wellington respectively. All the three vessels are due at their arrival ports next Tuesday morning. RARANGA LEAVES LIVERPOOL.— The Shaw, Savill and Albion Company has been notified by cable that the Raranga sailed from Liverpool on Saturday afternoon with general cargo to discharge at Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton, Dunedin and Oamaru. She is due at Auckland about February 25. PORT FREMANTLE TO LOAD.— The C. and D. Line reports that its motorship, Port Fremantle, is due at New Plymouth on February 6 from Australia to start loading. She will also load at Wellington, Bluff, Port Chalmers, Timaru and Lyttelton. The vessel is to sail finally from Lyttelton on February 26 for London, via Panama Canal. CITY OF WELLINGTON ARRIVING. —Radio advice received by the local office of the New Zealand Shipping Company states that the A. and A. Line's chartered motor-ship City of Wellington is expected to arrive at Auckland on Sunday morning from New York with cargo for discharge at Auckland, Napier, Wellington, Lyttelton and Dunedin. LUC ERIC REPORTS.— According to a further radio received by A. S. Paterson and Company, the steamer Luceric is due at Auckland on Saturday afternoon from Galveston, Texas. The vessel is bringing a cargo of sulphur for discharge at Auckland and Australia. It is expected she will berth at the King’s Wharf to unload 2,200 tons. PORT PIRIE TO LOAD.— The C. and D. Line advises that the Port Pirie left Fremantle on Saturday for Wanganui, where she is due on February 3 to commence loading. The vessel will load also at Opua, Auckland, Gisborne and Wellington. She is due at Auckland on February 18, and will sail finally from Wellington February 26 for London, via Panama Canal. PORT ALMA TO LOAD— Heather, Roberton, Limited, has been advised that the C. and D. Line’s motor-ship Port Alma is due at Oamaru on February 17 from Australia. She commences loading there and later comes to Auckland, being due here on February 24. Her other loading ports have not yet been fixed, but she is expected to clear New Zealand about the middle of March for London, via Panama. PASSENGERS ON MALOJ A.— Russell and Somers, Ltd., has received advice that the following passengers for New Zealand are travelling by the P. and O. liner Maloja, which is due at Sydney from London today:— Booked to reach Auckland by the Maunganui next Tuesday:—Mrs. and Misses Entrican (2), Mr. Crabb, Mr. Wick war, Miss Leisching, Miss Vaile, Miss Walker, Mr. Graves. Booked to reach Wellington by the Marama on Tuesday:—Mr. and Mrs. and Miss Budd and child, Miss Graham, Mr. Pinney, Mr. Rowley and five Indians. Other passengers making own arrangements:—Miss Scott,. Miss Leach, Mr. Ditesheim, Mr. Stephen. TEXAS OIL TANKER.— A fiotable shipping event will be the arrival here next week of the Texas Oil Company’s tanker Australia. Advice was received yesterday that the ship left Sydney on Monday’ for Wellington and Auckland, and is due at Wellington on Sunday. The Australia is from San Pedro, via Fremantle and other Australian ports, and is bringing a large shipment of bulk motor-spirit for Wellington and Auckland The Australia will be the first of the Texas Oil Company’s tankers to bring bulk motor-spirit for discharge into the company’s tanks at Freeman’s Bay. The Australia, which has a deadweight carrying capacity of 18,000 tons, is one of the largest oil tankers in the world. Built in 1928 at Chester, Pa., U.S.A., by the Sun Shipbuilding and Drydock Company for the Texas Oil Company, she was launched as the Mary Ellen O’Neil, under which name she traded till last year, when her name was changed to Australia to commemorate the Texas Company's entry into the Australian bulk petrol trade. She is a ship of 11,628 tons gross and 7,221 tons net register, her principal dimensions being: Length (b.p.), 509.7 feet; breadth, 70.3 feet; depth. 39.9 feet. She has a cruiser stern, and is constructed on the longitudinal frame system with two decks. The Australia is propelled by twinscrews, driven by two sets of Sun-Dox-ford four-cylinder, two-stroke cycle, single-acting Diesel engines.
