DUMPING DUTY TO BE IMPOSED DECISION OF CABINET Press Association ELLINGTON, "Wednesday. Cabinet has decided to impose a dumping duty on South African jams imported to New Zealand. This announcement was made by the lAon. . L. Taverner, Minister of Customs, today. tt . July, 1929,’* said Mr. Taverner, “■ was decided to send a Customs officer to South Africa to make special investigations into the conditions under which jam is shipped to this Dominion from the Union. As a result of the investigations it was found that practically all the jam had been sold for export to New Zealand at prices which warranted the imposition of dumping duty under the Customs Amendment Act. 1921. It has now been decided to levy such a duty of an amount equal to the* curicrence between the current domestic value of the jam. determined in accordance with the provisions of the Customs Acts and the actual sellmg price to the importer.”
