HOSPITAL REGISTRARS
APPOINTMENTS TO BE MADE Despite protests concerning the inadequacy of information on w r hich to base a decision, the Auckland Hospital Board yesterday decided to invite applications for two qualified doctors to act as surgical and medical registrars at the hospital, and to supervise the work of junior resident medical and honorary staff. The positions will carry salaries of £ 600 a year each. Protesting against the lack of a. report on the subject from the Finance Committee, which recommended the appointments, Mr. W. C. Wood deprecated the suggestion the board should swallow all the committee told them. “I don’t think it is courteous to the board,” he said. He believed that conflict of authority would arise through the proposed appointments. Mr. G. T. Parvin moved that the ap - pointments be confirmed subject to the reduction of the salaries to £SOO a year, but he later withdrew* his proposition on being informed that the appointments would be annual in term. The opinion that the appointments were a move in the right direction was expressed by Mr. M. J. Savage, who considered that the best possible officers should be obtained to do statistical and supervising work. The board was depending too much on its honorary staff, he said, and the time was coming when that service would have to be paid for.
