HOTEL PORTER GAOLED
THEFTS AT WHANGAREI From Our OwCorrespondent WHANGAREI, Today. In the Whangarei Magistrate's Court this morning, before Mr. G. N. Morris, S.M., Richard Bryan, aged 29. a hotel porter, previously employed at the Whangaroa Hotel, was charged with the theft of a suit of clothes valued at £7, the property of W. Nankiville, £4 the property of James Dunn, and £1 the property of Nora Holly. Senior-Sergeant O’Grady said that accused came to Whangarei, and when interviewed by a constable denied knowledge of the offences, but later admitted everything. Bryan had previously been before the court on six similar charges, and admitted to probation for two years. On the first charge accused was convicted and sentenced to six months’ hard labour. On the other two charges he was convicted and discharged.
